Alejandro Amézquita was one of the most talked about performing artists at the Festival Vibra Urbana celebrated in Miami. Vibra Urbana is a two day Reggaeton Festival with all of the most popular urban Latin artists from around the world. It is the biggest one in the U.S. and there, Alejandro Amézquita impressed the audience with a breathtaking performance. His stage presence, the perfection on the notes of his guitar, and his exceptional energy were notice by everyone in the audience and by the press.

We were able to get in touch with the artist to get some insights on his journey as a musician and his life since he moved from Mexico to Los Angeles. First of all, we asked him how this crazy Covid situation is affecting his career “It’s really not affecting my work at all nowadays, however, I wish I could say the same about last year. Everything was shut down. I had zero live shows, and zero sessions in recording studios. Social media saved my life though. I put in the work and started posting content on socials. And I networked with producers, musicians, and artists. I’d find myself recording guitar from my home studio, writing songs from my bedroom, and it was just a new way of working. Even now that everything is pretty much open in LA, there are recording sessions, meetings, and classes that are taking place via Zoom. COVID ended up creating new income streams. For instance, virtual concerts. I actually had a chance to perform a show at The Ace Hotel Theater with no audience in front of us but thousands of people watching through social media. It was crazy to be honest!”

Alejandro was a child prodigy who started playing the guitar at age 12 and at only 16 he was already performing. We asked him what’s his favorite memory as a child “I always looked forward to vacations with my family, and still do nowadays. There is this place we used to go every once in a while, called “Mazamitla”, and it’s one of my favorite places ever. I remember staying at these cozy cabins along the forest hills, we would make bonfires at night, and ride quad bikes during the day. We always had such a good time. Definitely moments with my family I will never forget.”

Amézquita moved to Los Angeles a few years ago to take the next step in his career. Since then, he has been working with the likes of Randy Jackson, Mickey Guyton, Joe Hellow, and many others. It must be hard to start over in a new city where you don’t know anyone. Alejandro shared the best advice for people trying to do what he does.

“Surround yourself with people doing what you want to do. That’s the best advice ever! You’ll learn exponentially, and improve your skill set quickly. I’d reach out to people I admire on Instagram and be like “Hey I really love what you do, let’s work together” and they might reply. There’s nothing to lose. So, you better take advantage of social media and reach out to people. A single DM can change your life and the best part is that it’s free!”
